About Us

Hi, I'm Emma, founder of Kidsaroo.

I’m a mum of 2 school-aged boys, originally from the UK and now living in Australia. First on Sydney's Northern Beaches, and now on the Sunshine Coast.

From a very early age, I knew that I wanted to work with kids. I was always taking care of my little cousins and babysitting whenever I got a chance. Straight out of High School, I went to College, received my Diploma in Nursery Nursing and went on to have a 15-year career as a nanny and maternity nurse. I loved it. A career which also allowed me to travel, being my other passion.

Growing up, I had a wonderful Grandmother. After having 7 of her own children, an absolute ton of grandchildren, she still went on to Foster kids in need. She was amazing and I idolised her. I lost her to Breast Cancer when she was only 55. I was 9.

When my equally wonderful Mum was just 43, she developed and thankfully beat, Breast Cancer. Thirty-one years later she found herself fighting Lung Cancer. Sadly she didn’t win that battle. I have now lost her to cancer also. She didn’t smoke and lived in the English countryside.

They are my Why.

I started researching to help my mum. This made me realise, for the sake of myself and my own children too, just how many chemicals we are all exposed to on a daily basis. Not only from the food we eat, but what we put on our skin and in the environment around us. Seriously, it’s horrible, it’s constant and it’s everywhere!

These chemicals are tested and deemed to be at ‘safe’ levels in each product, (although a recent 2019 study, found banned chemicals in leading brands of European nappies) but it’s also the Cocktail effect of all of them. The build-up over time of all the chemical exposure, that is making us ill. I’m not saying that they all cause cancer, autoimmune disorders etc. but they sure as hell make our bodies too unhealthy to fight them or keep them away.

Chemical absorbers in disposable nappies do leak through. They are not supposed to, but they do. Anyone that has ever used them, will tell you that at some point, when the nappy is full, they have found the little gel like crystals, on their baby’s skin. That’s the chemical. (Sodium Polyacrylate, if you want to look it up. Banned in tampons because of its link to toxic shock syndrome).

Just one of many toxins in disposables. Dioxins, fragrances, dyes – these toxins have been linked with allergic skin reactions, childhood Asthma and other issues.

We worry about what we put into our babies right? I’m sure you do. Why wouldn’t we worry about what we put onto them? It’s directly on the skin, after all. Do you really want to expose their skin to these chemicals for 3 years because it’s easier?

Then what do we do? We chuck them in the bin, send them to landfill, poison the Earth with them and then do it all over again…..5000+ nappies per child!

What are we thinking?

I did it. I’m not judging. I just never thought about it. I really wish I had though. I want every parent to think about it. To have the information and to have another choice, another option, without breaking the bank. So, I developed Kidsaroo.

I want to help make cloth a regular, mainstream option. To get our children away from the toxins that come with disposables. They're surrounded enough as it is, but at least with those ones, they don't have to be.

If that sounds good to you, I’d love it if you’d join me in spreading the word.  We just need people to stop and think. Just as they do with choosing breast feeding, bottle feeding or healthy food.
